Happy National Craft Month!

March is officially National Craft Month, get crafting.

To kick off this month, I will be talking about craft fairs.

Hear me out, Craft Fairs have come a long way; they are no longer events that your weird aunt (will all the cats) attends. They are so much more than that now. They are places in which independent artists come and sell their 'craft'. Think in-person Etsy.

"Skip the mall, Shop local"

Unique is one of the biggest shopping events in the country featuring goods made in the USA.

Unique LA, they host other events such as Fake Prom where they have a theme and people go all out dresses to match the theme (this years theme is "Pretty in Pink) and Pep Ralley "INSPIRATION, IDEAS & COMMUNITY. A free monthly speaker series for the community."

“The world’s premier network of events serving the DIY craft community”

They host fourteen fairs a year in Austin, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Portland, and San Francisco.

“An evolving showcase for the many talented creatives whom make the east side of Los Angeles their home”

The Echo Park Craft Fair is hosted twice a year and features over 70 artisans and designers. You could find everything from fresh flowers and cold-pressed juices along with more typical craft show fare (like jewelry and clothing).

Patchwork hosts events in Long Beach, Culver City, Santa Ana and Oakland. A pretty standard selection of crafts are on display here from vintage-inspired jewelry and boutique bath products, but this fair is particularly kid-friendly and has some quirky perks, such as a solar-powered sound booth that lets you listen to music while you look, and bike valet for two-wheeled travelers.

Patchwork also offers a “Craftcation” Conference for crafty entrepreneurs, featuring small business workshops, panel discussions, and of course, a healthy amount of crafting and skill sharing.

BUST Magazine holds a variety of markets each year in New York, Los Angeles, London and Boston. These “craftaculars” are filled with dozens of vendors plus DJs, food, cocktails and DIY activities for attendees of all ages.

Housed in a restored warehouse from the 1940s, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles is a permanent craft marketplace featuring the work over over 100 artists and craftspeople: “52 weekends a year of handmade happiness shopping, taking classes and meeting the makers.” Admission and parking is free!
